After this invitation Encinar conducted the Symphonic Radio Orchestra for the seven performances of his own opera FIGARO at the Teatro Nacional Dona Maria, in 1988. A couple of years later , at the same theatre, he conducted the Orquestra Metropolitana on the first performance of LLANTO POR IGNACIO SANCHEZ MEJIAS, by Tomás Marco, with the Companhia Nacional de Bailado.
During the season 1997/98 Encinar was invited to conduct the OSP (Orquestra Sinfonica Portuguesa) in a program with works by Joly Braga Santos, Luiz de Freitas Branco and Maurice Ravel and in the same year (1998) he visited Lisbon again, this time conducting the Grupo de Musica Contemporânea de Lisboa, with works by Clotilde Rosas and Jorge Peixinho.
